These are replaced by a full complement of touch-sensitive controls and a fully digital gauge cluster.įrom behind the wheel, the driver enjoys that configurable and full-color 10-inch digital gauge cluster, touch-sensitive steering wheel controls, a 10-inch touch screen for the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, and touch controls for the HVAC system. Gone are the small buttons on a plastic center console and the illegible gauge cluster found in the Evoque. The overall theme is familiar to Range Rover vehicles, but the controls and detailing have taken a futuristic direction. The Velar’s interior throws the bar rather than just moving it. The two Germans target the more on-road biased driving experience, whereas the Range Rover is more well rounded for any terrain it encounters.

Neither the Porsche or BMW offer the high-class and stately appearance as the Range Rover Velar. Honestly though, the 911 has set the theme for the entire Porsche lineup, so the look is rather cohesive across the board. But don’t think say it looks “conventional.” No, this crossover wears a front fasica similar to Porsche 911. Aside from the roof, though, the remainder of the X4’s appearance is similar to the more traditional X3.Īs for the Porsche Macan, it has a somewhat more traditional roofline. But since the Velar shares a similar shape, the BMW and Range Rover compete quite well against one another. The X4 is basically an X3 with its rear roof section curved down. Up first, the BMW X4 offering its coupe-like styling and familiar BMW front grille. These two Germans offer impressive on-road dynamics with some limited soft-roading capabilities. Two of the biggest competitors to the Range Rover Velar are that BMW X4 and the Porsche Macan. Similar to the F-Pace, the diesel comes standard with the V-6 being the range-topping choice. The Range Rover expands its powertrain by one, positioning JLR’s 2.0-liter gasoline turbo-four as the mid-range engine option. In fact, both vehicles share an 113-inch wheelbase and JLR’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel and 3.0-liter supercharged V-6. It rides on Land Rover’s Lightweight Aluminum Architecture, similar to the Jaguar F-Pace. The Range Rover Velar debuts for the 2018 model year and arrives in U.S. Range Rover also says the Velar ushers in a new era of design for the brand, so we’re expecting similar themes in Range Rover’s future vehicles. The Velar’s appeal is its striking new design, minimalistic interior, and avant-garde detailing. This four-door, two-row SUV fills the space between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport, giving Range Rover a stable with four vehicles, each appealing to a specific niche of the market. Range Rover has debuted an all-new model – the Velar.
